Game Changer USA Box Office: Sells 1,300+ Tickets in 48 Hours, Needs to Pick Up
The next big release from Tollywood after Pushpa 2 will be Game Changer featuring Ram Charan, Kiara Advani. This big filmmaking endeavor that has been laid down on the drawing board for quite some time will be out in theaters next month. Since the film has been planned for a Sankranti release there is hope for a good response at the box office. As can be expected of most big Tollywood films, Game Changer is also set to open in the USA with premiere shows. Okay, let’s focus on its advance booking figures up until now!
Director Shankar, who has given many blockbuster films in Indian film industry is now struggling in his career. Following the release of the record-breaking 2.0 in 2018, he stepped back from the director’s chair for six years. Indian 2 which he produced early this year though was not a success, it was a complete flop. There are even reports the lack of success of Indian 2 has led to talks of a direct to OTT release for Indian 3. Therefore, Game Changer is a very important film to Shankar as he tries to build on his status as a master filmmaker.
Game Changer also has a great meaning to Ram Charan as well. Where RRR has grossed over 1500 billion worldwide, his next film Acharya consequently bombed at the box office. The thrilling political drama is certainly a calculated move on part of both Shankar and Charan, who are eyeing a good comeback with this film.
Nevertheless the first numbers do not look too inspiring. A major exhibitor Mart that has not shown the expected buzz so far is the USA, a major market for Tollywood films. Online ticket sales for the first shows of the film began on Saturday, but by 10 am IST of next Wednesday, only fifteen thousand, one hundred and fifteen tickets had been sold.
At the moment, 367 shows are planned in 127 theaters in the USA. So far, the advance sales amount up to $38,000 (approximately ₹32,260) which is quite disappointing given the grandeur of the movie.
They need to rise more in order to meet the expectations, but it is still early, since the show will debut on January the 9th. As a result, Game Changer has a lasting production value and a star-studded cast, and there are ways that the programme could attract an audience, but it now needs a substantial push in the coming weeks to continue to market the programme and sustain the episodes.
